Behind the name...

Pronunciation: man-TOE-dee-ah

With its large eyes and swiveling head, the mantid entertains and fascinates us. Most people ...call members of the suborder Mantodea praying mantises, referring to their prayer-like posture when sitting. Mantis is a Greek word meaning prophet or soothsayer.

The mantis comes to us when we need peace, quiet and calm in our lives. Usually the mantis makes an appearance when we've flooded our lives with so much business, activity, or chaos that we can no longer hear the still small voice within us because of the external din we've created.

It was here, at what was Busy B Farm, where we saw these fascinating creatures, the praying mantis on every visit. It seemed to be a sign of good fortune and represented the peace, calm, and magic that we were looking for in our lives.

Who are we?

We are  two city dwellers (and a slew of teenagers) that moved to the country and have ensued a comedy of errors while beginning a farm/homestead of their own.  Our family has taken the pride in establishing this small family farm to place our roots in a homestead that can help support not only our family and but to also provide for the community.

Our History

Early winter 2014, Mantodea Farm was established.  Our first horses arrived as Christmas miracles, rescued from a feedlot in Pennsylvania. - saving them from being sent to Canada for slaughter.  From there we have been selectively building out a herd of quality ABGA registered Boer goats.  In addition, we have a pair of miniature donkeys, chickens, and too many dogs and cats to count.
